From construction entrepreneur to health manager: Maurizio Frassi has undergone an unusual transformation. His journey has been anything but linear, fueled by an initial desire to find something that would allow him to stay in shape and pursue physical well-being. His search was a true exploration into the field of health, which led him to discover and approach EMS training. This is an innovative way of treating all the muscles, exploiting the benefits of deep electrostimulation combined with physical exercise. The next step came when he decided, together with his partner Daniela Scacchi, to open a Körperformen health center in Locarno, an idea that came to fruition in December 2020 and was further strengthened with the opening of two other centers, where Frassi is joined by Mirko Canestri for the Manno location and Defrim Sadiku and Bekim Shabani for the Giubiasco location. The main activity carried out at the center is EMS training, which is based on deep electrostimulation combined with exercise. This training program offers significant benefits: for example, it can increase muscle mass, shape the body, and even strengthen the back. It involves a weekly 20-minute session, which can become two sessions for athletes, during which participants are supervised by qualified personal trainers. The sessions take place in very private settings, either individually or in pairs at most. During these sessions, you are supervised by a dedicated personal trainer who takes care of the entire session, developing a personalized program based on the client's needs. In particular, the EMS training system involves performing certain exercises with the aid of Miha Bodytec machines for electro-myo-stimulation. The client also wears a technical suit, consisting of a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, to which a jacket with electrodes is added. The program is suitable for everyone, regardless of whether they are sedentary or not and regardless of age: both young and old will enjoy the benefits of the treatment. Whatever your needs: muscle pain, back pain, arthritis, increased strength, weight loss, cellulite, indirect reactivation of the metabolism; the center's staff will be able to create a tailor-made program.
The customer is at the heart of the Körperformen centers, and great attention is paid to meeting their needs. With this in mind, a thorough medical history is taken, followed by an initial trial, all free of charge and with no obligation. Only then can you decide, in complete freedom, whether to go ahead with the program. The challenge faced by the owners of the Körperformen centers in Locarno, Manno, and Giubiasco was not an easy one. Coming from sectors other than health, it was necessary to support the project with an in-depth study of related topics. Similarly, the development of the first center was challenging from every point of view: from the construction of its interior to the administrative organization and planning of activities, right up to the search for staff, which also proved to be very complex. Despite the many challenges faced, the team running the centers is always working to improve and offer an increasingly comprehensive service. In fact, a cryotherapy chamber will soon be available for treating the body with cold therapy. The choice of staff is also very important for the owners. In addition to having solid training, they must possess those particular human qualities that enable them to support people on their journey, motivating and encouraging them. Another interesting feature is the option of choosing affordable subscriptions, which can be for three, six, or twelve months and include the following sessions: 12, 20+2 free, 40+4 free. It is also possible to book individual sessions, but this is not recommended in terms of long-term results, which require consistency.

CRYOTHERAPY IN SPORTS
Cold has important soothing and restorative properties. Anyone who has ever put ice on a bruise or wound to relieve pain will know this. Cryotherapy can be considered the first therapy used in history to relieve pain and symptoms associated with various conditions. The term cryotherapy derives from Greek and literally means "cold treatment." The ancient Greeks were among the first to experiment with cold therapy. Cryotherapy was designed to expose the body to very low temperatures in order to reduce pain or inflammation. The difference compared to today lay mainly in the systems used, which were certainly more rudimentary. The Romans also experimented with systems to expose the body to low temperatures. In fact, the baths also had a frigidarium, where people went after being in the hot water pools. The frigidarium was usually located in a closed and covered space, and the water could also be cooled using snow.
Today, cryotherapy is used in various fields, including sports. Sport is an excellent way to keep fit and healthy. Whole-body cryotherapy is the ideal "training partner." It is well known that intense and comprehensive physical exercise can cause excessive inflammation, hormonal changes, oxidative stress, tissue damage, and protein oxidation. Sports medicine has investigated methods that can accelerate muscle recovery after intense training. One of the most widespread and widely used protocols is cryotherapy in a cryosauna.
Here is what cryotherapy is used for in sports and why:
-It reduces oxidative stress
-Reduces muscle inflammation
-Improves cell vitality
-Reduces delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
-Improves energy intake in athletes
-Activates mitochondrial biogenesis
The use of very intense cold stimulates the metabolism, improving performance even in amateur sports.
The use of cryotherapy sessions is not limited to the sports field; in fact, there are many conditions that can be treated using this innovative technique. Here are the main uses:
-Treatment of low back pain and lumbosciatica
-Adjuvant treatment for osteoporosis or fibromyalgia
-Counteracting pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis
-Counteracting the onset and symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS)
-Reducing physical fatigue
-Improving sleep quality
-Improve cognitive processes and concentration
All this is possible thanks to the three main effects of cryotherapy treatment:
-Analgesic effect: pain decreases when an injured area comes into contact with a cold element thanks to hypothermia, which reduces the transmission of nerve impulses
-Anti-edema effect: cold stimulates superficial vasoconstriction, which prevents possible interstitial fluid extravasation, thus reducing swelling around the injury
-Antispasmodic and muscle relaxant action: muscles are unable to maintain contraction when exposed to low temperatures, as in the case of staying in a cryogenic chamber, because cold promotes muscle relaxation and reduces tension and inflammation
Thanks to these specific properties of cryotherapy, it is possible to significantly reduce recovery times in all cases.
To undergo cryotherapy sessions in Canton Ticino, we recommend contacting and visiting the Körperformen Center in Manno, where cryosauna treatments are performed, exposing the body to temperatures as low as -197 °C for approximately 3 minutes.
