When do I need new windows?
The older your windows are, the sooner it makes sense to renovate them or buy a newer model. This is because, depending on which decade your windows date from, a different design and technology was used. Many of them are now outdated and can no longer offer you the same comfort, security and thermal insulation as today's models.
For example, if you notice that you are freezing in your home in winter despite the huge heating costs, then your windows may have inadequate thermal insulation. The type of glazing plays a decisive role in good insulation. For example, do your windows have single glazing or do you have old, uncoated double insulating glass in your windows (common until 1995)? If so, a lot of heat can escape unhindered and energy is consumed unnecessarily. The seal of your windows is also crucial for thermal insulation. This is because leaky windows not only allow heat to escape outside or heat to penetrate from outside in summer, but they can also cause unpleasant draughts or even water ingress. The condition of the window frame (peeling paint, moldy frame wood) and aspects such as a lack of noise protection also play a decisive role in whether your current windows are still any good or not. And, of course, you should not ignore the security aspect. 80 % of all burglaries are committed through the window. Windows with single glazing and no security locks are therefore a popular target for burglars and do not provide good protection for you and your loved ones. So to summarize: if your window no longer protects you from wind and weather, burglars and noise, then it's high time to get a new one. What do I need to look out for when buying windows?
Different aspects play a role when buying a window. In addition to the right look, you should also pay particular attention to the glazing and the seal. After all, well-glazed windows can save you a lot of heat and therefore also heating costs - especially in the cold seasons. To make long-term savings, you should therefore opt for insulated triple glazing, which insulates six times better than the previous single glazing. The same applies to the seal: the more seals, the less unnecessary heat loss. The material and quality of the window are also decisive for its longevity. This is because good, high-quality windows last up to 30 years and save you unnecessary costs in the long term.
The issue of security and burglary protection should also not be forgotten when buying a new window. Security glazing or a security lock can greatly minimize the chances of a break-in, as 80% of break-ins occur through the window. You can also install security fittings in your new window to prevent the window from being pried open. Thermal insulation, burglary protection, durability and appearance - you should definitely bear these aspects in mind when buying a window. What do I need to look out for when buying a front door?
The visual aspect sometimes plays the biggest role when buying your front door. The design, material and color of your new front door must suit you 100%. After all, a front door acts as a calling card for your home and plays a key role in shaping the first impression of every visitor. If you can't identify with your door, how will your guests be able to do so and feel at ease?
In addition to the appearance, the security aspect should of course also be taken into account when choosing a door. After all, burglary protection starts with a secure locking system for the front door. In addition, the seal of the door and the thickness of the door leaf determine how well you are protected from wind, weather and noise in your home and how effective the thermal insulation is within your four walls. In addition, some materials are more durable than others and can provide you with loyal service for a longer period of time and generate lower maintenance costs. Appearance, burglary protection, noise and weather protection as well as durability therefore play a decisive role when choosing your front door.
