What is pelvic floor rehabilitation?

Urogynecological physiotherapy is a relatively recent branch of physiotherapy.
A physiotherapist specializing in this field is a professional competent in conservative treatment to cure and resolve pelvic floor problems.
Perineal physiotherapy prevents and treats dysfunctions, helps prepare the muscles before surgery and childbirth, but also during pregnancy, after surgery, and after childbirth.

Techniques and equipment

Perineal rehabilitation uses simple, non-invasive instruments, is painless, and has no side effects.

Each rehabilitation program is customized according to the problem and uses:

• Manual therapy, gentle maneuvers, and pelvic mobilization aimed at achieving muscle and joint normalization of the pelvis.
• Biofeedback, a tool that facilitates awareness of the perineum and its functioning.
• Functional electrostimulation (SEF), a neuromodulator capable of acting on the neurological circuits that regulate the perineum.
• Pelvic floor ultrasound therapy
• Trigger point treatment
• Postural and hypopressive exercise
• Treatment with instruments (electrostimulation, biofeedback)

The therapy is also based on continuous feedback between the patient and the physical therapist.
