RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY includes scar correction, nose and ear restoration, and breast reconstruction. Breast reconstruction after breast cancer treatment has gained in importance in recent years; the surgical spectrum has been expanded to include reconstruction using the patient's own tissue from the abdomen, which can be performed gently using microsurgical techniques.
AESTHETIC MEDICINE complements our range of surgical services with treatments and therapies in the aesthetic, non-invasive field. With the latest methods of wrinkle correction, many problems in the early stages without surgical methods, for example with botulinum toxin and/or wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid preparations or autologous fat. A peel removes pigment spots and improves the skin structure. Unwanted hair on the face and body can be permanently removed with laser hair removal.
HAND SURGERY, formerly part of plastic surgery and now an independent specialty, is offered exclusively by specialists in hand surgery at our clinic. The treatment area of hand surgery includes all disorders that affect the function of the hand, i.e., changes to tendons, vessels, joints, and nerves that can be constricted in various places. Acute injuries, congenital malformations, nerve disorders, tumors, and rheumatic diseases are treated.

Dr. Hyunju Kim Haemmig completed her medical studies at the Universities of Fribourg and Bern and supplemented her training with stays abroad, including at Yonsei University Hospital, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (Prof. Park and Lee) in Seoul, South Korea.
After several years of training in general surgery, she completed her specialist training in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery at the Cantonal Hospital in Aarau under Prof. Meuli, graduating with a specialist title in 2015.
From 2015 to 2018, she worked as a senior physician in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at Inselspital Bern (Prof. Constantinescu).
Dr. Kim obtained the European specialist title in plastic surgery (EBOPRAS) in 2012 and the Swiss specialist title in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery FMH in 2015.
She is married and has two children. German and Korean are her native languages; she is fluent in English and French.

Prof. Dr. Kalbermatten studied in Bern (MD), Boston, Manchester (MPhil), and Umea (PhD). He completed his training as a plastic surgeon in Bern, Lucerne, Basel, Manchester, and Lausanne. Since 2008, he has held a university teaching position in plastic surgery at the University of Basel. PD Dr. Kalbermatten has been practicing in Bern since 2004 and at the Klinik im Spiegel since 2009.
