COMUNE DI VACALLO

Vacallo is a Swiss municipality in the canton of Ticino with approximately 3,300 inhabitants and an area of approximately 1.59 km2, nestled on the slopes of Monte Bisbino at an altitude of 367 m above sea level.

 

Close to the border between Italy and Switzerland, it borders the municipalities of Chiasso, Morbio Inferiore, Breggia, Maslianico (IT-CO), Cernobbio (IT-CO), and Como (IT-CO). The municipality has all the necessary public infrastructure, including a school, kindergarten, bank, restaurants, and several shops. The town center can be reached on foot in a few minutes. Public transport (buses) connects Vacallo with Chiasso and the region daily with several routes.

 

Meaning of the coat of arms: Vacallo has always been an agricultural town, as recalled by the three bunches of grapes in the municipal coat of arms, symbolizing the three districts (Pizzamiglio, Roggiana, and San Simone), separated by a white "V," the initial of the municipality but also of the fourth district, Vacallo Alta.
