Wauwil with far-reaching views / fantastic residential location
Short portrait
Wauwil is located in the heart of the Lucerne midlands, in the triangle formed by the three charming country towns of Sursee, Willisau and Zofingen. The view across the wide plain of the Wauwilermoos opens up distant views of the Valais and Bernese Alps.
The intact natural landscape in the Wauwilermoos provides a habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Switzerland's last colony of lapwings breeds here. The Wauwilermoos is included in the inventory of water and migratory bird reserves of national importance.
On the southern edge of the village is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Central Europe. The reconstructed pile dwelling settlement has also stood here since 2009. Information boards on a circular route explain the excavation sites on the shores of the former Lake Wauwil. The pile-dwelling settlements and the archaeological sites are recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The S-Bahn stop on the Basel-Lucerne SBB line every half hour and the Dagmersellen and Sursee A2 connections give us access to the 'wider world'. Attractive apartments, services and commercial enterprises will soon be built on the site of the former glassworks. In 2009, Wauwil was the first Swiss municipality to be recognized by UNICEF as a 'child-friendly municipality'. We are able to offer the full range of primary schools here. The Energy City label is a certificate of achievement for the sustainable use of energy. Of the more than 50 commercial and service companies, Wauwiler Champignons AG is the largest employer.- German
