Since 1910, people have been bathing in Zurich's Volkshaus. Built as a bathhouse with shower and bath cabins in gender-segregated operation, the premises under the restaurant were converted into a sauna facility at the end of the 1960s. After a six-month renovation phase, the Stadtbad now opens its doors. Here, Nordic sauna culture blends with oriental bathing pleasure. In the midst of contemporary art and architecture, guests can leave everyday life behind for a few hours and recharge their batteries.

Hamam

The hammam in the Stadtbad is based on the traditional Turkish bath with a central navel stone and various wash basins and baths all around. The modern architecture, built from natural materials, and various artistic interventions by Zurich artists give the bathhouse a very unique atmosphere. As in the Orient, the bath is an introverted facility with no connection to the outside world. The city recedes into the distance - soul and body begin to fly...

Sauna

The Finnish sauna in the Stadtbad offers genuine Russian banya pleasure with birch branch massages and birch infusions from Tuesday to Thursday. The birch branches are used to massage each other (lightly or vigorously beating the individual parts of the body) to promote blood circulation in the skin and contribute to a unique sauna experience with their fragrant essential oils. The banya sauna is more humid but also slightly less hot than the Finnish dry sauna.
