Ostello di Scudellate

Via Cantonale 124, 6838 Muggio
Ostello di Scudellate - Valle di Muggio

For decades, the Scudellate Ostello has been a reference point for school groups and groups of friends wishing to discover the Muggio Valley region. After major renovation work on the building, the hostel is now suitable for anyone who wants to enjoy a convivial stay, surrounded by nature and characterized by a modern and youthful structure. The Scudellate Ostello is the ideal place for groups and school parties. You can book the ostello for special occasions such as birthdays, parties, sports retreats, mountain schools, team-building trips and group travel. Depending on your needs and the number of participants, the Ostello team is ready to present you with individual offers. In the picturesque village of Scudellate, located in the upper Muggio Valley, is the Scudellate Ostello. The Ostello has recently been refurbished to accommodate families, couples, backpackers, groups of friends, school groups and work colleagues who want to enjoy a stay on the slopes of Monte Generoso. The surrounding landscape is suitable for all lovers of nature and local food and wine. From here, it is possible to set off on various excursions on foot and by mountain bike between Switzerland and Italy. A dense network of paths allows you to admire the typical flora and fauna of the region. The Osteria Manciana, located just a few meters away, is happy to delight guests of the Ostello, from breakfast to dinner, with typical regional dishes and drinks. The Ostello offers two types of rooms. There are three rooms with shared bathroom and shower and one private room with its own bathroom. On the first floor of the Ostello there is a brand-new terrace with a unique view of the valley. Thanks to the youthful and versatile furnishings, guests can spend time together, relax or enjoy the breathtaking view while enjoying a local aperitif. On the ground floor there is another terrace, but this is covered and suitable for activities even if the weather is not favorable. The common room is located on the ground floor. Here guests will have the opportunity to meet, get to know each other and share their stay. As well as for socializing, this area is suitable for relaxing, working or holding meetings. Board games, books and a guitar are at everyone’s disposal. There is also the possibility of listening to music both inside and outside the building. There is also a big screen for filming or presentations. Keep an eye on the Ostello’s social profile, @OstellodiScudellate, to find out about activities and events. The building was built as the Scudellate school between 1907 and 1909 when it was inaugurated by the entire population of Scudellate and Erbonne. In fact, it initially housed the children of the two villages, which are still in Switzerland (Scudellate) and Italy (Erbonne). As many as 51 pupils between the ages of 6 and 14 attended the school every year. The infrastructure built by the local population (see original list of benefactors of 1909) remained available as a kindergarten and school from its creation in 1909 until 1965. In the upper Muggio Valley there were also other schools in Roncapiano and Muggiasca. From 1965 to 1982, the current Ostello was mainly used for local festivals, which were very popular with the population of the entire upper Muggio Valley and beyond. On 22 August 1982, the building was given a new lease of life, and after partial renovation, the Scudellate Ostello was opened and remained open all year round. From 1982 to 2019, the sole manager was Mr Guerino Piffaretti, who managed the facility in an exemplary manner, hosting several generations of young people from schools in the Mendrisiotto area and beyond. Since 2019 the infrastructure has been taken over by the Fondazione per la salvaguardia dell’alta Valle di Muggio (Foundation for the Protection of the Upper Muggio Valley), which has assembled the old facilities with a third adjacent building (former Cooperative), creating 24 beds in 4 rooms as well as new and separate toilets. The refectory and kitchen have also been modernized and made more usable not only for guests but also for meetings/presentations etc.. Finally, there has been built a magnificent terrace of approx. 35m2 offering a spectacular view over the entire Muggio Valley. On 23 July 2021, the new Ostello was inaugurated. It will be managed as part of the Albergo Diffuso of Monte Generoso with the adjacent Osteria Manciana, the Foresteria di Scudellate and the Capanna dell’Alpe Caviano.

About us | Our products

A Swiss company that has been active for 40 years (1982 - 2022) in the field of building and street decoration products. Thanks to the quality of our products, as well as the careful selection of first-class suppliers, we have succeeded over the years in establishing ourselves and conquering the Swiss and international markets. Our strong point is our aluminium profiles: we have designed, developed and patented them; this allows us to meet the needs of our demanding customers by offering customisable products. Thanks to our constant striving for improvement, as well as the study and development of our products, we are proud to have been able to obtain: the TÜV quality mark for several products and the SWISS LABEL mark . An important recognition obtained in 2020 is the EN 1090 Certification (CE marking): conformity of factory production control for metal products with structural uses. In Ticino, we represent company such as Büwa (modular partitions for WCs and lockers), Renz (letterboxes and mail distributors), Kern-Studer (cellar partitions), Pratic (pergolas and awnings), Emco (doormats and technical mats), St. Vitrinen (noticeboards, display cases and showcases) and recently we also became representatives of the Helios company (street furniture). Our production is split into 6 different product families : - "LaTettoia” (shelter systems): carports, entrance, stair and passageway covers, bus shelters, terrace covers, Smoking Points, sports bench covers; - "Ciclopark" (articles for slow mobility): shelters for cycles and motorbikes, parking systems for bicycles and scooters and charging and maintenance stations; - “Berbox" : mail post box; - 'Gaia Line' : wardrobe furniture, outdoor furniture components and protective screens; - "Trenntop" : cellar and multifunctional partitions; - "Stendi" : universal clotheslines. LA TETTOIA CARPORT Carports to suit every aesthetic taste and requirement: cantilever, lean-to, single or modular etc. The structures are similar, what changes is the shape of the roof (arched, flat, pyramidal or with different shapes and architectural features) and the material used (compact or structural Plexiglas sheets, polycarbonate, trapezoidal sheet metal and modular aluminium slats). ENTRANCE SHELTERS Every structure, building or entrance is different; this is why our covers adapt to the stylistic tastes of our customers, whether in terms of the material used (compact/structural Plexiglas sheets or laminated glass sheets), the type of wall anchoring (from a minimal and discreet fixing, to a decorative structure) or the shape required ( arched, flat, pyramidal or with diversified shapes and architectural features). TERRACE COVERS All our terrace covers are ideal for protecting your patio from sun and weather. They can be either lean-to or free-standing, depending on the request, and come with a set of accessories: closing walls, lighting, drainage channel, etc. WALKWAY AND STAIRWAY SHELTERS We have developed covers designed for the protection of walkways and stairs in public or private environments, to provide protection where required. Our coverings can be made of compact or structural Plexiglas sheets, vaulted, flat, pyramidal or with different shapes and architectural features. LETTERBOX & CHECKOUT COVERS We have used our knowledge to adapt our covers to letterbox and automatic checkout systems. They are suitable for both private and public places. For each construction, we guarantee design according with current standards. BUS SHELTERS Our bus shelters are varied to suit different locations. Using different roof shapes and materials, the design phase is very important and takes into account the SIA regulations of the location for which they are intended. MULTIFUNCTIONAL FENCES Fences with a tasteful design, ideal for visual screening, decorative fencing and dividing walls. Great for protecting a private space, but also suitable for separating public property. SMOKING POINT Sheltered smoking area for outdoors. Elegant cylindrical or cubic design, perfect for restaurants, bars, offices, public and private companies, banks, hospitals, etc. The supporting structure is made of extruded aluminium profiles, the infill with compact Plexiglas and the protective cover is made of synthetic resin panels. CICLOPARK HOME A series of simple covers for bicycles and motorbikes that meet the needs of the private sector: i.e. economy and space-saving. CITY From the many requests we have received over the past decades, we have developed very different covers, using durable materials, modularity and a variety of accessories. PARKING Parking systems for bicycles and scooters. The special shape of the supports allows bicycles with different wheel thicknesses to be parked. Depending on the space available and the number of items to be stored, we can suggest the Series that best meets your needs. ENERGY The vision of the world is changing: slow mobility is coming into our daily imaginary as an efficient and easy solution to reduce the environmental impact of our travels and, above all, to benefit the physical and mental level. Our company is working to give its customers the tools to live and enjoy in a more conscious way, making the 'green' choice accessible to all. BERBOX Our BERBOX letterboxes are manufactured in accordance with POSTA CH regulations. The different lines enable you to adapt them perfectly to your style: classic with more rounded lines or modern with a minimal formal cleanliness. To keep up with the times, we have also created an XL line that can hold packages brought to you by courier, without the need to deliver them in person. TRENNTOP Developed as basement partitions for apartment blocks, they have also satisfied those customers who required a multifunctional separation for interior spaces. Our modular element system is made of supporting structures made of natural anodised aluminium profiles prepared to contain closing panels and the insertion of access doors. The panels can be made of white bilaminate chipboard (TRENNTOP PANELS) or wire mesh (TRENNTOP GITTER). The doors are complete with sturdy hinges and lock for cylinder or padlock closure. GAIA FURNISHINGS AND CLOAKROOMS GAIA-LINE is a programme of components for wardrobes and changing room furniture. Thanks to our many years of experience in the business, we have designed a new line that is simple, elegant and complete. The design, flexibility, ease of assembly and installation, quality in the details as well as the choice of colour, guarantee this product a superior quality. The items in the GAIA-LINE programme can be supplied as individual components or custom-assembled. All steel parts are coated with epoxy powder, while the aluminium profiles and hooks are natural colour anodised. The wooden slats are lacquered beech. OUTDOOR FURNITURE The simple, linear design of GAIA-LINE benches coincides with the equal simplicity of its components. The supports are made of laser-cut and press-folded sheet steel, while the seats can be made of anodised aluminium or precious woods suitable for outdoors. To insure durability, the steel parts are bath-galvanised and epoxy-powder lacquered. The smooth side of the supports is perfectly adapted for customisation with laser-cut names or logos. STENDI Revolutionary universal, modular clothesline, complete with all accessories for the different laying systems. It consists of a natural polished aluminium profile, galvanised and stainless steel components and ABS sliding blocks with integrated roller.

Valentina Benassi - Benny Pottery - Ceramic Artist - Lugano

In my studio in Viganello, ceramics becomes much more than an art form: it’s a fusion of passion, tradition, and innovation. Each piece I create is the result of a unique experience, a process that blends the ancient craft of ceramics with contemporary trends. Clay , shaped by hand, tells the story of its maker, and it’s this story that I want to share with those who enter my creative world. With a degree in Ceramic Design and over 15 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of furthering my knowledge through courses and workshops in Switzerland , Italy , and Japan , where I refined traditional techniques and explored innovative approaches. This continuous commitment to learning allows me to offer my clients not only unique pieces but also a high-quality artistic experience that goes beyond simple creation: it’s an opportunity for personal growth. In my studio , I create sculptures , home decor items, ceramic jewelry , and functional objects like plates , cups , vases , and much more. Each piece is born from aesthetic exploration and the intent to combine design with functionality. Every creation is unique, designed to reflect not only my artistic research but also the needs of those who approach me in search of something special and one-of-a-kind. If you are looking for an object that tells a unique story, something you won’t find anywhere else, my studio is the perfect place to bring your idea to life. One of the most important aspects of my work is teaching . I offer ceramic courses for both beginners and advanced levels, for adults and children. Each course is tailored to meet individual expectations, allowing each participant to experience something that goes beyond technique. The courses are organized flexibly, both private and group sessions, and take place not only in my studio in Lugano but also in other locations when needed, where I hold workshops for anyone who wants to discover the world of ceramics. Each class is an opportunity to experiment and release creativity, exploring together techniques such as modeling, throwing, decoration, and glazing. For me, the art of ceramics is a means of communication, a way to express emotions and ideas through the hands. In this process, clay becomes the medium through which we rediscover the joy of creating something with both body and mind in an increasingly fast-paced and virtual world. My goal is for each participant to experience a creative and meditative journey that encourages concentration and personal expression. Custom commissions are one of my specialties. Whether it's creating an exclusive object for the home , designing pieces for restaurants , or crafting personalized gift items , each request is handled with the utmost care and attention. Every custom project begins with a dialogue with the client, translating their ideas and desires into ceramics, creating something truly unique. Collaborating with artisans, interior designers , and restaurants allows me to develop exclusive artisanal projects, creating unique and functional decor solutions. I work closely with clients to ensure that every piece perfectly meets their needs, combining the beauty of ceramics with modern, functional design, intended to enrich spaces and everyday experiences. In my studio , it’s not only about the creation of objects, but also about building a community. I am a member of local and international ceramic and artisan associations, and by participating in events and fairs, I strive to promote ceramics as a form of cultural and creative expression. These collaborations are key to creating a link between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, enhancing ceramic heritage in a modern way. If you wish to explore your creativity through a ceramics course or commission unique pieces for your home , business , or as a special gift , my studio is the ideal place to experience the passion for craftsmanship, excellence, and innovation. Every project is designed to offer you a unique experience, balancing tradition and contemporary design. I look forward to seeing you! Valentina

Founded by M. Crist Fleming in 1956, TASIS The American School in Switzerland is a day and boarding school committed to creating global citizens through education, travel, and service. The oldest American boarding school in Europe, TASIS celebrated its 60th anniversary during the summer of 2016. TASIS welcomes students from Pre-Kindergarten (starting at age three) through grade 12 and also has a Postgraduate program. 750+ students make up the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, with approximately 260 students between ages 11–19 living in dormitories on campus . TASIS is distinguished by both its diversity and its unity. The student body represents more than 60 nationalities and speaks more than 30 different mother tongues. Cultural differences are celebrated as students challenge and inspire one another to become global citizens. Students leave TASIS with links to a vibrant worldwide community that celebrates the unique nature of this remarkable place. High School students can choose from individual Advanced Placement courses or pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma , helping them receive offers from more than 500 universities in more than 20 nations over the past 10 years. The School offers an extensive Fine Arts program that includes courses in Drama, Music, and the Visual Arts, enabling aspiring artists of any ilk to find their creative voice and nurture their talent. The Elementary School supplements the Core Knowledge curriculum with the Singapore Math program, a robust English as an Additional Language program, and an Italian section—preparing all students for academic success at the next level. Accredited by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), TASIS is proud to employ gifted, passionate educators who encourage intellectual curiosity. More than 75 percent of the faculty hold advanced degrees. The campus includes more than 25 buildings dating from the 17th century Villa De Nobili to the state-of-the-art Campo Science Center, which opened in 2014. Perched on a hillside in sunny southern Switzerland with commanding views of snow-capped mountains, palm trees, and Lake Lugano, the School's enviable location makes possible an impressive Academic Travel program . Travel experiences throughout the year bring students face-to-face with the rich cultural heritage of Europe and the spectacular natural beauty of the Alps and beyond. The School’s pioneering Global Service Program transforms lives by providing every High School student with a unique opportunity to connect across borders—whether geographic, economic, or social—through comprehensive experiences that build empathy and encourage personal responsibility. The Program awakens students to humanitarian needs; inspires them to build enduring, mutually beneficial relationships; and leads them toward a life of active service and committed service. TASIS encourages physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. Varsity sports teams compete throughout Switzerland and Europe, and a variety of other fitness activities are offered to cater to all interests. Each year also brings many opportunities to ski and explore the breathtaking Alps. Each summer, hundreds of students aged 4–18 journey to Lugano for the TASIS Summer Programs , which feature intensive academic courses, an unparalleled performing arts program, thrilling outdoor adventures, advanced sports training, and exciting cultural excursions around Europe.

Valentina

Valentina
