The Solar Agency Switzerland (SAS) is an independent, non-profit organisation based in Zurich. Since its foundation in 1990, it has been consistently committed to promoting the use of renewable solar energy and energy-efficient architecture in Switzerland. Its main objective is to strengthen awareness, commitment and innovation in the field of solar energy - at an individual, corporate and institutional level. A central instrument of this promotion is the Swiss Solar Prize, which the SAS has awarded annually since 1991. It honours exemplary achievements in the fields of construction, architecture, energy production, innovation and personal commitment. The prize recognises pioneering PlusEnergyBuildings (PEB) as well as energy-efficient renovations of old buildings, technological innovations and committed individuals. Since 2010, the prestigious Norman Foster Solar Award has also been presented for outstanding PEBs. The SAS sees itself as a bridge builder between research, practice and the public. With its award ceremonies, specialist publications and information campaigns, it makes a significant contribution to the visualisation of successful solar projects. At the same time, it promotes dialogue between architects, energy planners, building owners, municipalities and the general public.
