The way to the driver's license Cat. B (minimum age 18 years)

Order your learner's permit (LFA)

The learner's license is only issued after passing the theory test. The corresponding application form can be requested online from the Road Traffic Office

Documents to be submitted

• Completely filled out application form
• 1 recent color passport photo (format 35x45mm)
• Copy of the residence permit or confirmation from the residents' registration office on the application form
• Sight test by an optician or ophthalmologist (see note on the application form)
• You will then be sent the OK for the theory test

Complete the emergency helper course (mandatory)

The emergency helper's certificate is valid for 6 years

Please enclose a copy with the application form.

Theory test 

After passing the theory test, you will immediately receive your learner's permit. This is valid for 24 months.

New courses are constantly being added. The course dates can be adjusted as required. The course lasts 4 evenings of 2 hours each and is valid for 2 years.

The aim is to drive a light motor vehicle safely and in accordance with traffic regulations, even in difficult situations.

A serious and well-founded training for a safe and economical driving style is an important concern for me.

Motorcycle

The path to a Cat. A1 / A

The learner's license for the following categories is only issued after passing the theory test

Motorcycle cat. A1 (from 16 years of age)

Motorcycles can be ridden from the age of 16 in category A1 with 50 cm3 cubic capacity 

Attention: 

The validity of the learner's permit issued is initially 4 months. The registered validity of a further 12 months only applies if the basic practical training course is successfully completed within the first 4 months.

Practical basic training: 

It is mandatory, comprises 8 hours and is divided into basic course 1 and 2. The courses can be completed regularly every Saturday or by appointment. 

Exam registration:

When registering for the practical driving test, proof must be provided that an eight-hour traffic awareness course has been attended.

• Motorcycles up to 125 cm3 / max. 11 kW power
• Basic theory test

Attention:
If you already hold the Cat. A1 from the age of 16 can immediately drive vehicles up to 125 cm3 / max. 11 kW power from their 18th birthday.

Motorcycle Cat. A1 from 18 years with Cat. B permit (car)

• Motorcycles up to 125 cm3 / max. 11 kW power
• Practical basic training 8 hours
• No examination

Motorcycle cat. A (limited) from 18 years

• Motorcycles with at least 11 kW and max. 35 kW 
• Basic theory test
• VKU (4 x 2 hours)
• Practical basic training 12 hours (divided into course 1, 2 and 3)
• Practical examination

Attention: No theory test and no VKU is required if you are in possession of a Cat. B or A1 driving license

Motorcycle Cat. A (limited) from the age of 18 and in possession of Cat. A1

• Motorcycles with at least 11 kW and max. 35 kW
• Practical basic training 6 hours
• Practical examination

Motorcycle cat. A (unlimited) from 25 years of age (direct entry)

• Motorcycles with over 35 kW 
• Basic theory test
• VKU (4 x 2 hours)
• Practical basic training 12 hours (divided into course 1, 2 and 3)
• Practical examination
• Test vehicle: A motorcycle with at least 35 kW and with 2 seats

Attention 

No theory test and no VKU required if you are in possession of a Cat. B or A1 driving license

Motorcycle Cat. A (unrestricted) and in possession of Cat. A (restricted)

• Motorcycles with over 35 kW 
• After two years of uncomplained driving experience, the restriction is lifted upon request
• This means "test-free receipt of Cat. A without restriction"

Minimum age

The theory test is possible from the age of 16 for category A1 (limited to 50 cm3).
