PILATES...WHAT IS IT?
There are eight guiding principles, derived from the direct experience of Joseph Pilates himself, which represent the key points of the Pilates method. These are essential principles, which are also useful for other disciplines and which together contribute to physical well-being.
POSTUROLOGY
Posture is a person's habitual attitude, determined by the contraction of skeletal muscle groups that oppose gravity and by the way in which the individual communicates with the external environment. The postural system is a very complex set of structures involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, i.e., the eyes, feet, skin, muscles, joints, stomatognathic system (occlusal system and tongue), and inner ear.
The concept of posture is associated with the concept of balance.
Balance is the result of the strategy employed by each individual to assume and maintain any position of their body in a given circumstance, seeking to achieve: minimum energy consumption with maximum dynamic balance and minimum psycho-physical stress.
Posturology is that part of alternative medicine that studies the relationship between body posture and certain pathologies that result from incorrect posture.
A posturologist is a professional who treats pathologies and disorders related to posture, adapting an approach that takes into account the patient's trauma, lifestyle, and character.
FITNESS
What does it mean to be fit?
Our fitness level is determined by several components, which can be trained and therefore improved;
- Cardiorespiratory endurance: the body's ability to acquire and supply oxygen to tissues and organs.
- Strength: the body's ability to overcome or resist external resistance.
- Flexibility: the body's or a joint's ability to move freely throughout its entire range of motion.
- Speed: the ability to perform an activity in a minimum amount of time.
- Power: the ability to be strong and fast at the same time.
- Coordination: the ability to fluidly combine distinct movements into a single movement.
- Agility: the ability to move from one movement to another in a minimum amount of time.
- Balance: the ability to control the body in relation to the base of support.
- Precision: ability to control movement.
- Body composition: the right balance between lean body mass and fat mass.
The more you improve in each component, the fitter you will be.
Whoever you are, you will be a better "YOU" if you make correct, frequent, and intensely appropriate exercise your lifelong companion.
Why train with bodyweight exercises? I find it more enjoyable, more rewarding, and more interesting. Before looking for equipment, ask yourself some questions: How do I move? Am I able to use my body? Do I have awareness of my movements?
I believe it is important to educate a person about movement, to understand what they are doing and why they are doing it.
Our body, inserted into the environment in which we live, is the main training tool, the most valuable we have. Through our body, we can improve the quality of our life.
