Blood donation appointments

The Basel Blood Donation Centre is a charitable foundation and a member of the blood donation service SRK. We have a mandate from the federal government to provide blood products to the health facilities in the Basel region. To this end, we maintain a blood donation centre in Basel's city centre and a collection point in the Liestal Cantonal Hospital. We regularly conduct mobile blood donation campaigns in the municipalities. We produce the blood products in the centre and operate an immunohaematological laboratory accredited by the SAS.

The donated blood is used to care for people who have suffered major blood loss following accidents or operations. It is also used to treat cancer, leukaemia or other diseases.

Around 50% of the blood needed in our region is lacking. In order to cover the entire demand, we have to buy blood products from the rest of Switzerland.
