The Haldimann ophthalmology practice is a sole practice that Dr. Thomas Haldimann has been running since 1999 and is now in its third generation. We specialize in glaucoma screening and cataract surgery. Dr. Thomas Haldimann is an attending physician for outpatient cataract surgery at the Siloah Clinic in Gümligen. This means he can guide you as a patient through the entire process.

Dr. Haldimann specializes in cataract surgery. However, he also carries out preliminary examinations, consultations and other additional ophthalmological examinations and treatments as standard

Preventive examination for glaucoma

Early detection is particularly important for glaucoma. This is because glaucoma can irreversibly damage the optic nerve.

In our practice, we measure eye pressure and the peripapillary nerve fiber layer (using optical coherence tomography, OCT), check your visual field (computer perimetry) and carry out a biomicroscopic assessment of the optic nerve head.

An important examination is also that of the back of the eye to detect macular degeneration or retinal changes. These occur particularly in connection with diabetes and high blood pressure.

An eye test is also part of the standard check. We check your visual acuity and determine whether you have short-sightedness (myopia) or long-sightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism or presbyopia. If necessary, you will then receive an appropriate prescription for glasses.

Cataract surgery (cataract surgery)

Cataracts are usually an age-related eye disease in which the lens becomes cloudy. This impairs vision. Patients experience blurred, hazy and foggy vision. The most effective treatment is an operation to replace the cloudy lens with an artificial lens.

Dr. Haldimann performs cataract surgery as an attending physician at the Klinik Siloah in Gümligen. The outpatient procedure is performed under local anesthesia (drip anesthesia and intravenous sedation) following a prior examination in the practice and a detailed consultation. During the operation, circulation is monitored by the anesthesia team at the Siloah Clinic.

Preoperatively, we contact the patient's general practitioner to obtain information about the patient's general health and any risk factors.

Wrinkle treatment

Dr. Haldimann carries out treatments to reduce expression lines on the upper half of the face, particularly the frown lines. The treatment involves injecting botulinum toxin into the facial muscles responsible for the wrinkles. It needs to be repeated approximately every three to six months.
