The RIVE-NEUVE Foundation is a specialized palliative care hospital for complex and unstable patients with incurable diseases.

 

The facility can accommodate 20 patients in single rooms only, covered by basic LAMal insurance.

 

Our definition of palliative care is based on that of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Swiss Society for Palliative Medicine and Care (palliative.ch). Palliative care is active (ongoing) care provided using a holistic approach, which aims to improve the quality of life of patients and their loved ones who are facing a serious and incurable illness that is life-threatening in the short or medium term.

 

At the Rive-Neuve Foundation, palliative care:

✓ Aims to relieve pain and other symptoms of discomfort (somatic and psychological);

✓ Supports life in vulnerable situations and considers death a natural process;

✓ Does not hasten or delay death;

✓ Integrates psychological and spiritual aspects into patient care;

✓ Offers a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death occurs;

✓ Offer support to loved ones in coping with the patient's illness and during the grieving process;

✓ Use a multidisciplinary team approach to meet the needs of patients and their families, including bereavement support when necessary;

✓ Improve quality of life and potentially have a positive impact on the course of the disease;

✓ Can be considered as supportive care, or early palliative care, during the continuation of oncological treatments in the palliative phase. They include the investigations required to better understand and remedy troublesome clinical complications.
