IPPC standard ISPM

International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM)

Background
The material of wooden packaging often consists of inexpensive raw wood. This is generally suitable for transporting unwanted pests and larvae around the world as "stowaways". Due to worldwide globalization and trade flows, the pests reach every continent within a very short time.

Wood treatment
The ISPM specifications define the necessary measures according to which this raw wood must be treated before it is used as wood packaging so that no unwanted pests travel with it as "stowaways".

Marking of the wood packaging material
The wood treated in accordance with the ISPM specifications must be permanently marked. The marking includes a country code, a regional code and another registration number. In addition, information is provided on the wood treatment carried out.
