What does an ENT doctor treat?
Ears
Hearing loss affects one in ten men. Treating ear disorders is the reserved domain of the ENT doctor. He is trained in the medical and surgical treatment of hearing, ear infections, balance disorders, tinnitus, pain and facial and skull disorders.
The nose
Each year, chronic sinusitis is one of the most common reasons for ENT consultations. The nasal cavities and sinuses are among the ENT doctor's main areas of expertise. Management of the nasal region includes allergies and the sense of smell. The ENT doctor also specializes in breathing through the nose, as well as its aesthetic aspects.
The throat
Communication (speaking, singing) and eating use this vital region. The ENT doctor is also skilled in the management of diseases of the larynx (organ of phonation) and the upper part of the digestive tract or oesophagus, including voice and swallowing disorders.
Head and neck
This essential region of the body includes the important nerves that control sight, smell, hearing and the face. The ENT doctor is trained in the treatment of infectious diseases and benign and malignant tumors of this region.
Diagnosis and treatment
deafness is a common condition. Deafness is a reduction in hearing acuity. There are two forms of deafness. Sensorineural deafness is caused by damage to the inner ear. The most common cause is presbycusis or deafness due to aging. A hearing aid is proposed when sensorineural deafness becomes socially embarrassing, and generally gives excellent results. Conductive deafness is due to damage to the outer or middle ear. Treatment is often surgical. An audiogram or auditory test performed in a soundproof booth, enables deafness to be classified and quantified.
Deafness is a frequent condition that manifests itself as a reduction in hearing acuity. There are two types of deafness:
1. sensorineural deafness, caused by damage to the inner ear, the most common cause of which is presbycusis or age-related deafness; when this becomes socially embarrassing, a hearing aid is fitted, usually with excellent results.
2. conductive deafness, caused by damage to the inner ear, the most common cause of which is presbycusis or age-related deafness. Conductive deafness is caused by damage to the outer or middle ear, and is often treated surgically.
Tinnitus or droning are abnormal noises that can manifest themselves as a whistling sound that the patient hears intermittently or permanently. This type of condition is found in 30% of the adult population. The treatment of ringing is often difficult. Certain medications can reduce their intensity. Tranquilizers can also be prescribed for insomnia. Above all, treatment of buzzing must be preventive. Wearing ear protection is essential, especially in patients regularly subjected to intense noise in their profession. In all cases, the doctor mustlisten to the patient. The inner ear is responsible for the patient's balance. When this inner ear is affected, the result is vertigoor balance disorderwhich the patient describes as if he were on a merry-go-round. Other symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting, are often present. Benign paroxysmal vertigo or cupulo-lithiasis is a very common vertigo. It is treated in the doctor's office with a fast-motion maneuver known as the Semont maneuver. For other causes, medication is prescribed with generally good results.
Acute rhumae and sinusitis are essentially of bacterial origin. Medical treatment quickly unblocks the nose and sinuses, and often gives excellent results. Antibiotics and nasal drops are generally given. Colds and chronic sinusitis require medical or surgical treatment, especially if there is a mechanical obstruction in the nose. Endoscopic methods are then used to make no external opening.
Anginina starts with a few tingles at the back of the throat, then the pain increases. The throat is inflamed. White patches can be seen on the tonsils. If the sore throat accompanies influenza or another viral infection, the treatment is based on rest and the usual fever-reducing drugs; on the other hand, if the sore throat is microbial with white patches, it must be treated with antibiotics. In the case of recurrent angina, surgery may be considered.
The practice is located close to the railway station, Place St François and public transport (bus)
