Company description
Spalu SA, a family-run business, was founded in Lugano in 1933 as a road paving company operating in the canton of Ticino. Today, the group has 140 employees.
Over the years, other production departments have been added: in 1940, waterproofing; in 1964, industrial flooring and subfloors; in 1978, synthetic material coatings; and finally, in 1983, it absorbed the employees and equipment of the construction companies Ing. Franco Ender and Alfonso Canonica, establishing a department to support the other services.
In 1996, a branch was established in Roveredo, extending its activities to the canton of Grisons.
In 2006, a branch was also established in Biasca, called Spalu SA, Succursale di Biasca, to extend its activities to the upper Riviera and Valleys.
Over the years, several stakes in companies closely related to its business have been acquired. In 1971, together with other paving companies, the Comibit Consortium was formed, which later became Combit SA, for the joint production of bituminous mix. In 1998, a service company, Tecnoasfalti SA, was founded with two other companies in the sector, with the aim of purchasing and renting machines for processing molten asphalt.
In 2000, Tresoldi Lattonieri SA was acquired to complement the waterproofing department.
Finally, in 2003, the company was reorganized with the establishment of Spalu Holding SA, creating, in addition to Spalu SA (operational), Spalu Servizi SA, which operates in the field of construction and civil engineering and owns real estate.
