Over 400 years of innkeeping tradition of the Studer families

The Sonne restaurant is run by Stephan and Beatrice Studer-Bucher, the 12th generation of the "Sonnen-Wirt" family. Christian Studer, the ancestor of the "Sonnenwirte" in Niederbuchsiten, built the first tavern, the "Sonne", in Oberdorf in 1600. In 1619, the same Christian, as his village name was, had the bailiff Hans Wilhelm Kallenberg of Bechburg ask the government to allow him to serve and sell wine. On May 17, 1619, the mayor and the council of Solothurn announced that Christen Studer would be granted this requested half right to sell wine. He and his son Ulrich Studer were fellow citizens and neighbors of the legendary peasant leader Adam Zeltner.

From village pub to inn

On October 29, 1760, the right to run a tavern was codified anew, stating that "the subject Jacob Studer of Niederbuchsiten could accommodate strangers and locals in the public inn and tavern and provide them with food and drink". Finally, he was also granted the right to display a sign with a golden sun on a blue field at his inn. The original tavern letter with a large town seal in a wooden capsule is in the possession of the Studer family. A reproduction with the wording of the tavern letter and a beautifully designed calligraphic history of the inn are on display in a showcase at the entrance to the inn. Stephan and Beatrice Studer-Bucher took over the inn at the beginning of 1997 in the 12th generation, after their parents, Paul and Bertha Studer-Ingold, had previously run the historic "Sonne" for almost 30 years. The inn was not only modernized and extended, but also expanded with a great deal of skill, care and love, transforming the Sonne from a pub to a favorite inn. The 400-year anniversary of the innkeeping tradition of a single family has strengthened the current innkeepers and with the construction of a conservatory in 2001 set an architectural accent in the guest area. In the summer of 2010, the restaurant, parlor and hall on the 1st floor underwent further gentle renovations and alterations. The two newly installed windows in the Stübli on the east side are arranged as requested by the preservation authorities and allow plenty of light to flood through the guest rooms.

Family restaurant with Swiss cuisine in Niederbuchsiten since 1600

Enjoy a delicious meal with a bottle of wine and chat about old times in the cozy dining room with a sitting stove. You can expect fresh salads, various Rösti variations and home-style cooking.

All dishes are freshly prepared by us. Whether it's liver with rösti, bratwurst or a delicious cordon bleu. Blood and liver sausages are made by us. We use regional products in all our dishes and supplement the menu with seasonal specialties.

Float romantically through the evening, enjoy a delicious meal and experience unforgettable moments. Our Stübli offers you a wonderful ambience and impresses with its rustic touch and antique appearance paired with modernity.

The Anker-Stübli consists of a cozy, bright room and offers space for 20 people. Like the rest of our restaurant, the Stübli is of course wheelchair accessible.
