Over 400 years of Studer family tradition as innkeepers

The Sonne restaurant is run by Stephan and Beatrice Studer-Bucher, the 12th generation of "Sonnenwirte" (innkeepers). Christian Studer, the forefather of the "Sonnenwirte" in Niederbuchsiten, established the "Sonne" as the first tavern in Oberdorf in 1600. In 1619, Christen, as his village name was, asked the governor Hans Wilhelm Kallenberg in Bechburg to allow him to serve and sell wine. On May 17, 1619, the mayor and council of Solothurn announced that Christen Studer had been granted the requested half wine license. He and his son Ulrich Studer were fellow citizens and neighbors of the legendary peasant leader Adam Zeltner.

From village pub to inn

On October 29, 1760, the tavern license was reissued, granting "the subject Jacob Studer of Niederbuchsiten the right to accommodate strangers and locals in his public inn and tavern and to provide them with food and drink." Finally, he was also granted the right to hang a sign with a golden sun on a blue field at his restaurant. The original tavern charter with a large city seal in a wooden capsule is in the possession of the Studer family. A reproduction of the text of the tavern charter and a beautifully calligraphied history of the inn are displayed in a showcase at the entrance to the inn. Stephan and Beatrice Studer-Bucher took over the inn at the beginning of 1997 as the 12th generation, after their parents, Paul and Bertha Studer-Ingold, had run the historic "Sonne" for almost 30 years. The inn was not only modernized and expanded, but also enhanced by gastronomic achievements with great skill, care, and love, transforming the Sonne from a pub into a favorite inn. The current owners have continued the 400-year tradition of hospitality in a single family and added an architectural highlight to the guest area with the construction of a conservatory in 2001. In the summer of 2010, gentle renovations and alterations were carried out in the restaurant, Stübli, and hall on the first floor. The two newly installed windows in the Stübli on the east side are arranged as requested by the monument preservation authorities and allow plenty of light to flood through the guest rooms.

Family restaurant serving Swiss cuisine in Niederbuchsiten since 1600

Enjoy a delicious meal with a bottle of wine in the cozy dining room with a heated bench and chat about old times. Fresh salads, various rösti variations, and home-style dishes await you.

All dishes are freshly prepared by us, whether it's liver with rösti, bratwurst, or a delicious cordon bleu. We make our own blood and liver sausages. We use regional products in all our dishes and supplement the menu with seasonal specialties.

Spend a romantic evening, enjoy delicious food, and experience unforgettable moments. Our Stübli offers a wonderful ambiance and captivates with its rustic touch and antique appearance paired with modern elements.

The Anker-Stübli consists of a cozy, bright room and can accommodate 20 people. Of course, the Stübli, like the rest of our restaurant, is wheelchair accessible.
