But what exactly is corrosion protection?

Corrosion protection refers to measures to prevent damage that can be caused to metallic components by corrosion (from the Latin corrodere meaning to decompose, eat away, gnaw away). As absolute corrosion resistance cannot be achieved, the protective measures taken are generally aimed at reducing the speed of corrosive attack to such an extent that damage to the component can be avoided during its service life.
