The Compagnie de Chemin de Fer et d'Autobus Sierre-Montana-Crans (SMC) SA is a historic yet modern transport company in Valais. Its centerpiece is the funicular railway linking Sierre (533m) to Crans-Montana (1476m). Opened in 1911 and extensively modernized in 1997 and 2022, it is renowned as the longest open-air funicular in Europe.
