Joëlle Gertsch Veterinary Osteopath for Animals
Osteopathy is a first-line manual medicine, meaning that it does not require a prior medical consultation. By approaching the body as a whole, it aims to restore mobility to structures with restricted movement. This mobility allows the body to be reharmonized and rebalanced, which is essential for maintaining its capacity for self-regulation and self-healing, and therefore for its optimal functioning.
The work is carried out using different techniques, including manipulative (known as structural), fluidic, energetic, and facial techniques. The choice of technique will of course depend on the condition, but also on the age and character of our patient—manipulation is never imposed against their will. Different techniques can be and are often used during the same session.
Contrary to what its name might suggest, osteopathy does not deal exclusively with bones, but with all the body's systems.
Indications and contraindications:
The indications are very broad, here are a few:
- musculoskeletal problems, lameness
- chronic conditions: ear infections, cystitis, dermatitis, etc.
- digestive problems
- following surgery
- fertility problems
- Decline in fitness or performance
- following an accident, fall, or trauma
- behavioral disorders
- neurological disorders
- even when everything is fine! Regular treatment helps regulate the body and prevents the onset of pathologies linked to compensatory mechanisms.
Osteopathy is contraindicated in cases of acute infection or inflammation.
I practice in the following areas: Valais, the Vaud Riviera, Chablais, and also at home for large animals.
