Description
Joëlle Gertsch Veterinarian Osteopath for animals
Osteopathy is a first-line manual medicine, and therefore requires no prior medical consultation. By understanding the body as a whole, it aims to restore mobility to structures with restricted movement. This mobility helps to re-harmonize and rebalance the body, essential for maintaining its capacity for self-regulation and self-healing, and thus for optimal functioning.
The work is carried out using a variety of techniques, whether manipulative (known as structural), fluidic, energetic or facial. The choice of technique will of course depend on the condition, but also on the age and character of our patient - a manipulation is never imposed against the patient's will. Different techniques can be, and often are, used in the same session.
Contrary to what its name might suggest, osteopathy is not exclusively concerned with bone, but with all the systems of the body.
Indications and contraindications:
The indications are very broad, here are just a few:
- locomotor problems, lameness
- chronic conditions: otitis, cystitis, dermatitis...
- digestive problems
- following surgery
- fertility problems
- reduced fitness or performance
- following an accident, fall or trauma
- behavioral disorders
- neurological disorders
- also when everything's going well! Regular treatment helps to regulate the body and prevent the onset of pathologies linked to compensation.
Osteopathy is contraindicated in cases of acute infection or inflammation.
I practice in the following regions: Valais, Riviera vaudoise, Chablais at home for large animals too.
