Demographic trends and the "outpatient before inpatient" strategy mean that outpatient services are becoming the cornerstone of needs-based care. Spitex will be caring for significantly more elderly people and will have to cope with increasingly complex care and support situations.

In order to meet these challenges, seven municipalities in the Zofingen area with a total population of around 50,000 voted in favor of regionalizing Spitex services in 2017.
