Prophylaxis / dental hygiene

Good oral hygiene is the most important thing for keeping your teeth healthy. We can help you achieve good oral hygiene through professional teeth cleaning by a dental hygienist. The condition of your teeth and gums will determine how often you should visit your dental hygienist, which is usually between 1 and several times a year. With daily oral hygiene and regular tooth cleaning by a dental hygienist, you can prevent tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontal disease. A healthy oral cavity also protects you from many other diseases! We help you to maintain good health!

Aesthetic dentistry

Beautiful teeth are now standard in our society and reflect our social status. With modern materials and technology, aesthetic dental problems can be satisfactorily resolved.

Bleaching

There are various bleaching methods and teeth whitening is also offered by non-dental staff. It is important that specially trained medical professionals carry out and check the bleaching of the teeth. In our practice, we recommend home bleaching, i.e. the patient receives two custom-made medical trays for the gel (carbamide peroxide) used to whiten the teeth. The patient usually keeps the trays in their mouth for one hour a day at home. After about 2 to 3 weeks, the teeth are significantly lighter. The duration of tooth whitening depends on eating habits (smoking, coffee and tea), but usually lasts several years and whitening can be repeated afterwards (the medical trays can be reused!).

Plastic fillings

In our practice, we have not used amalgam fillings for over 10 years. Many international scientific studies show that plastic fillings last just as long as amalgam fillings if they are processed correctly and the patient maintains good oral hygiene! Plastic fillings can also meet aesthetic requirements. Plastic fillings are somewhat more difficult to produce, but thanks to our special training and many years of experience, we can guarantee you the best possible production. Here are a few pictures!

As an alternative, we also make gold and ceramic fillings. Both types of filling are produced in a dental laboratory and are therefore slightly more expensive!

Perodontal treatment

If the gum inflammation and the inflammation of the periodontium is advanced and bone may have already been removed, we speak of periodontal disease. Years ago, treatment required complex and painful operations, but today the treatment is mainly carried out by the dental hygienist. This is done by professionally cleaning the root surfaces of the teeth, removing soft plaque and hard tartar and cleaning the gum pockets. One milligram of tartar contains around 100 to 300 million bacteria and these are responsible for the disease. The dental hygienist also instructs the patient to maintain clean conditions and prevent the disease from progressing by adapting their oral hygiene to their situation. If the inflammation is not brought under control with these treatment methods, the use of antibiotics or surgical intervention is necessary!

Root treatment

If the nerve in the tooth is inflamed and causes severe pain, root canal treatment is indicated. This involves drilling a hole in the tooth and removing the nerve. If bacteria are present, a medication is applied to kill the bacteria and a few days or weeks are waited. The nerve canal is then firmly sealed with a substance. The "dead" tooth is usually restored with a filling, a build-up and/or a crown and can thus continue to function for the rest of its life.

Prosthetics

We offer all prosthetic treatment methods, including crowns, bridges, veneers, partial and full dentures.

Surgery

In most cases, we can perform the surgical removal of wisdom teeth and root residues ourselves in our practice. However, if we are of the opinion that the case exceeds our limits of competence, we refer the patient to the practice for implantology and dental surgery of Dr. med. med. dent. Harald Schiel, Sempacherstrasse 43, 4053 Basel.

Implants

An implant is an artificial replacement for a lost tooth. The root is replaced with a metal root made of titanium, an abutment is screwed onto it and the crown is cemented in. The surgical part is performed by Dr. med. med. dent. Harald Schiel of the Practice for Implantology and Dental Surgery, Sempacherstrasse 43, 4053 Basel. We make the abutment and the crown.

Anxious patient

Many patients are very afraid of the dentist, the treatment and the pain. They therefore don't go to the dentist for a long time and wait until severe pain occurs. That doesn't have to be the case. You are in good hands at our practice. We are very empathetic, have a great deal of experience and respond to your wishes.

Children

Because some children have more tooth decay again, regular dental check-ups are very important and recommended
