My name is Ali and I am the owner of Gabbeh and Oriental Carpet House Bern
I was born in Iran and worked there as a writer and poet.

Since 1996, I have been known as an Oriental carpet expert in the old town of Bern.

Over the past few years, I have built up an extensive network of contacts in Iran. These contacts enable me to import carpets directly from Iran to Switzerland without any middlemen.
My company specializes in Persian knotted products.
During my annual trips to Iran, I have the opportunity to check the carpets for authenticity and quality before they are exported. I examine each individual carpet on site, at the producer's, and select the best pieces for you.
Persia has produced many great poets throughout its millennia-old cultural history. Hafez, Ferdowsi, and others like them also inspired Goethe.
Just as the poetry of these great poets touches our souls, the wonderful works of art by mostly unknown carpet artists delight our eyes and souls with their pictorial poetry.

In addition to traditional provinces such as Esfahan, Nain, Tabriz, Bidjar, and Ghom, to name but a few, we specialize in modern products.

We purchase modern Gabbeh carpets from nomads in the Shiraz area.

Gabbeh carpets are unique. Whenever possible, we are happy to fulfill your wishes regarding color and size.

You will also find beautiful kilims ( flat weaves) in our range.

Our services

We deliver carpets purchasedfrom us to your home free of charge.

If you are unable to decide on a particular carpet in the store, we will be happy to give you a selection to take home or bring them to your home. We will lay the carpets in the desired location and you can choose the one you like best at your leisure. This service is free of charge and without obligation.

You have moved into a new home, bought new furniture, and your oriental rug no longer fits or you no longer like it. You can exchange certain oriental rugs for another rug or sell them back to us, even after several years.

We will credit you a fair amount corresponding to the current value of the carpet towards the purchase of a new carpet, or we will pay you the current value.

If you wish, we can also provide you with underlays for your carpets so that they do not slip on smooth floors, parquet, or ceramic tiles, or "wander" on all types of fitted carpets.

Carpet repair

Does your favorite carpet have worn spots, moth damage, or unsightly fringes?
We will repair it for you. Costs are charged according to the work involved. We will be happy to provide you with a free estimate.

Sizing down Gabbeh carpets

Modern Gabbeh carpets often do not have a symmetrical pattern.
Is your Gabbeh carpet too large for some reason?
No problem, Gabbeh and Orient Carpet House will professionally reduce its size according to your wishes. The edges will be re-sewn. We may even be able to make a small runner or doormat for your apartment entrance from the cut-off piece.

Appraisals and valuations

You own a beautiful oriental rug and would like to know its current value. We will provide you with an estimate and issue a certificate upon request.
We will be happy to inform you of the costs for our work and any travel expenses on request.
