Malcantonese Retirement Home
The Malcantonese Retirement Home was inaugurated in October 1939 thanks to the charitable work of Giovanni and Giuseppina Rossi. In 1987, it underwent a complete renovation.
It is located in Castelrotto, a charming village in Malcantone, surrounded by greenery and nature typical of the region.
According to its statutes, it mainly accommodates elderly people residing in the municipalities of Malcantone.
It is recognized in the planning of nursing homes in Ticino with a total of 105 beds, subsidized by the state, 90 for permanent residents divided into 26 single rooms and 32 double rooms, as well as 15 beds for acute transitional care (CAT) and temporary therapeutic stays (STT).
In February 2005, a specific ward called the "protected housing unit" was created within the facility reserved for permanent residents for people with cognitive and/or behavioral problems.
In 2018,the Oasi di Cura (Care Oasis) was inaugurated, an experimental facility that will accommodate bedridden patients in an open space where a healthcare professional is always present to respond to the care and attention needs of residents.
It is run by a non-profit foundation.
It is a member of the Association of Directors of Nursing Homes in Italian-speaking Switzerland (ADICASI), the Association of Municipalities in the Social and Health Care Sector (ACAS), and Curaviva Switzerland.
For several years, Casa Anziani Malcantonese has been a training center for various professional figures.
In harmony with the Malcantonese Retirement Home, the Malcantonese Hospital also operates in the same building.
The institute's philosophy is based on the following key points:
ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
All employees work with respect for the dignity of the individual and the uniqueness of life, in particular by observing ethical principles in four areas of responsibility:
towards the resident and those close to them
towards themselves and their profession
towards members of the work group
towards society and the environment
QUALITY
The level of quality of services is set by management in accordance with the guidelines issued by the competent bodies.
Every employee must commit to the development and achievement of this objective.
Quality means the willingness to work according to a concept of continuous improvement of the services offered.
COLLABORATION AND MULTI-, INTER- AND TRANS-DISCIPLINARY WORK
The spirit of collaboration between the various professionals (both internal and external) and the involvement of family members and/or people who are significant to the resident are promoted in order to encourage a multidisciplinary approach to the resident's care, which guarantees better quality care outcomes.
Networking with local services is encouraged.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
Communication, information, and acting in a consistent, precise, and timely manner are fundamental to creating a transparent environment that leads to sharing and the development of a sense of community.
DEVELOPMENT AND ENHANCEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES
Staff represent a fundamental human resource for institutional growth.
Respect and enhancement of personal characteristics and aptitudes are cultivated for the development of the individual and the professional, strengthening autonomy and self-fulfillment.
Continuous training, both internal and external, is one of the essential elements for the development of these resources.
OPTIMIZATION OF RESOURCES
The Institute wishes to contribute to the containment of healthcare costs through the optimal use of available resources in accordance with criteria of efficiency and effectiveness, with a keen eye on carrying out activities in an environmentally friendly manner.
CONTINUOUS EVOLUTION
The Institute actively promotes social and healthcare development and progress, as well as networking.
It takes socio-cultural changes into account and remains open to developments in the Ticino healthcare sector.
It promotes new knowledge in compliance with federal and cantonal directives.
