Private residence recognized by the Canton of Ticino and health insurers, affiliated with the social institutions of the city of Lugano and the municipalities of Lugano and other districts of the canton.

The facility has 85 beds and is part of the cantonal social and healthcare network for the care and assistance of elderly people or those with disabling conditions. It is the only medical facility in Ticino with a ward dedicated to people with Parkinson's disease.

Villa Santa Maria is located in Savosa, on the outskirts of Lugano, in a quiet and sunny setting. The home, characterized by a white tower dating back to the early 20th century, is surrounded by a large, lush garden. Inside, it houses a Catholic chapel with artistic stained glass windows by Fra' Roberto Pasotti.

The rooms

The residence has single and double rooms, with or without a terrace, all sunny and with panoramic views, equipped with beds and multi-purpose bedside tables, call devices, bathrooms, cable TV, direct dial telephones, and internet connection.

The new rooms in the Parkinson's ward are equipped with accessories for targeted assistance for the symptoms of the disease and with motion detectors.

The only Parkinson's ward in Ticino

Villa Santa Maria has developed a unique social and healthcare service in Ticino for people who are no longer completely self-sufficient due to the progressive symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

The new ward, which opened in January 2015, can accommodate people in single or double rooms and offers assistance and care tailored to the difficulties of the disease, comfort and safety for quality of life, and support for residual autonomy.

Admission is possible for temporary stays (for example, after acute hospitalization or during the absence of a family caregiver) or for long-term care (when the conditions for living at home are no longer met).

Assistance and care

Assistance and care are provided by qualified nursing and healthcare staff and are based on a careful multidisciplinary assessment.

Guests are followed by their designated doctor and receive personalized assistance, physiotherapy treatments, and specialist consultations (neurologist, geriatrician, etc.).

Our care philosophy is based on attention to the individual, quality of life, and physical, mental, social, relational, and spiritual needs.

The guest is always at the center of our social and healthcare services: in our various daily activities, in our assistance, medical and rehabilitation services, and in promoting relational and psychological well-being.

Care and assistance are provided by a multi-professional team which, after careful assessment, formalizes an individual care plan aimed at:

• promoting the physical and social-relational autonomy of the person

• stimulate residual abilities

• managing any possible deterioration in elderly people, people with Parkinson's disease, and people with disabilities (e.g., cognitive impairment, motor disorders, balance problems)

• ensuring comfort care in pain management

• paying attention to the relational and spiritual sphere

• accompanying the person and their family in dealing with particularly delicate situations.

 

Entertainment

The socio-cultural entertainment service organizes weekly recreational and cultural activities, both individual and group, taking into account both the remaining resources of the individuals and their interests and desires. The aim is to make everyday life enjoyable and stimulating.

 

Hotel services

All guests, regardless of whether they occupy a single or double room, enjoy the same catering, cleaning, and laundry services.

The care of the house and its indoor and outdoor areas is a strong point of Villa Santa Maria's offering, particularly appreciated by guests and their families.

• The staff responsible for cleaning the rooms and common areas work seven days a week.

• The laundry and ironing service takes care of guests' personal linen and clothing.

• House maintenance is carried out regularly.

 

Catering

The kitchen staff, led by a qualified dietitian, pays great attention to the preparation of healthy, balanced meals and strict compliance with hygiene standards.

Mealtimes are considered a special opportunity for socializing and stimulating the senses.
