Geomatics is responsible for the operation of the regional geodata center (RGDZ) and all specialist applications operated in the RGDZ for the official offices and companies affiliated with the RGDZ. The head has the task of coordinating GIS applications in the municipal administration with regard to the data structure and the GIS software. He is the coordinator for current and future GIS projects and GIS-specific intranet and internet projects. He is the contact person for federal, cantonal and municipal GIS projects. He is the system administrator in the specific GIS area and for the specialist application (buildings and properties database).

Geographic information systems are information systems for recording, processing, organizing, analysing and presenting geographical data. In the municipality of Horgen, these are the data from the official cadastral survey and all pipeline networks. Based on this basic data, other important data such as zone planning, nature conservation inventory, water protection maps, hazard maps, etc. are managed in the municipal GIS. Raster data such as orthophotos (aerial photographs), raster overview plans and historical maps are also available in the GIS.
