Eye health is quality of life
At our ophthalmology practice, we offer services related to the health of your eyes. We specialize in ophthalmology and are happy to assist you as ophthalmologists for children and adults.
The core competencies of our ophthalmology practice lie in the following areas:
General eye examination, general ophthalmology
A general eye examination is important for the early detection of eye diseases. The various examination methods we use are part of our daily routine, allowing us to draw on our wealth of experience. A comprehensive assessment of your eye health is important to us, as it has a direct influence on the progression of any problems that may arise. These include refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or presbyopia, as well as diseases of the optic nerve or cornea.
Cataracts
Cataracts are also known as cataracts in technical terminology. They are a clouding of the lens caused by protein deposits. This can be caused by complications after treatment with cortisone, an accident, or the normal aging process. Congenital clouding of the lens is rare. Symptoms such as decreased visual acuity, glare, or fading colors are often only noticed at a certain stage. Cataracts can be treated surgically by replacing the clouded lens with an artificial lens. This is a short, routine procedure with minimal risks. Patients who have been diagnosed with cataracts and who decide to have surgery are operated on by experienced ophthalmologists in the Bern area. We are happy to accompany you before and after the operation and take care of the follow-up treatment using the Ellex YAG laser.
Increased eye pressure, glaucoma
Eye pressure can increase with age, as changes in the chamber angle or other "canalization" no longer function optimally. The structure of the internal eye fluid usually remains unchanged throughout life. Increased eye pressure can therefore occur. In the case of increased eye pressure, the optic nerve can be damaged in the long term. Increased eye pressure with damage to the optic nerve head or fibers (glaucoma) is also known as glaucoma in technical terminology. Without regular eye examinations, most cases of glaucoma are only noticed at an advanced stage, as symptoms often only appear then. Regular eye examinations can detect increased eye pressure, enable glaucoma to be diagnosed and treated at an early stage, and prevent serious damage to the optic nerve. We support you with our expertise from diagnosis to treatment.
Pediatric ophthalmology
Young patients are also welcome at our practice. Most children are aged 7 and above. In emergency situations or on referral, we also treat children under the age of 7.
Eye emergencies
What is an eye emergency? The eye emergencies we treat in our practice include eye pain, sudden loss of vision, a veil over the eye, conjunctivitis, iritis (uveitis), foreign bodies in the eye, or clarification of a suspected retinal detachment. We are happy to be there for you in these cases.
Special diagnostics
Our ophthalmology practice has the equipment and expertise for various special diagnostic methods. These include:
Visual field examination using static perimeter and kinetic Goldmann perimeter
Color test using Farnsworth
Pachymetry (corneal thickness measurement using a camera-based device)
Retinal photography
Ocular coherence tomography (OCT) of the spectral domain
Endothelial cell microscopy
Simulator for simulating visual performance using Moiré
The practice is located near the main road towards Zollikofen, opposite Migros.
