Description
About us
We accompany, support and advocate
Children's Cancer Aid Switzerland was founded in 1987 under the name "Interessensgemeinschaft krebskranker Kinder". Since then, the association has been committed to helping affected families and supports them financially, with advice, information and many activities.
"Your child has cancer": this sentence changes the life of the whole family from one day to the next. Not only is optimal medical care vital, but the understanding, support and hope of the people around you are also important factors.

Holidays and activities: a unique and varied offer for young and old, so as not to forget the splashes of color in life
Free distribution of brochures, leaflets and information on childhood cancer
Supporting research projects that benefit children with cancer and long-term survivors (childhood cancer survivors)
Promoting projects and conferences that are geared towards the needs of affected families
Support from regional parents' groups at the individual children's hospitals
Talk groups for families who have lost their child to cancer
Mentoring Project
What is mentoring?
Former childhood cancer patients (survivors) can empathize particularly well with the situation of children/young people with cancer. There is often a deep bond of trust between people who have experienced something similar. This is also the reason behind the mentoring provided by the survivors: In addition to professional medical and psychological help and the security of family, patients receive additional support on their journey through the experiences of people with a similar fate.
Over two weekends, 20 survivors were prepared for their work with young cancer patients by a training team from Germany.
The mentors' valuable volunteer work is intended to provide support over a longer period of time. The visits can take place in hospital, at home or at a Swiss Childhood Cancer Aid event.
At the moment, mentors are arranged through Swiss Childhood Cancer Aid. Would you like to talk to someone who had childhood cancer themselves and is now involved as a mentor? Don't hesitate, whether a child/young person or a parent would like to get in touch, our mentors have an open ear and look forward to their free assignments.

Beads of courage
Upon diagnosis and admission to the oncology ward, the young patients are given a long string on which they thread an anchor bead as a symbol of hope, their first names made of colorful letter beads and a snail bead, the logo of the Children's Cancer Aid
.Depending on the therapy and examinations, a wide variety of courage beads are subsequently added: the Chemo-Kasper bead as a symbol for chemotherapy or the Radio-Robby bead for radiotherapy, an animal stands for port pricking, spiral rollers for transfusions and a lucky beetle for an operation. You can find all the types of beads that are given here.
Donations marked "Mutperlen" will be booked under this project.
ECDL project at the hospitals
Young people with cancer are given the opportunity to complete the ECDL Start computer course during the treatment phase.
It is often impossible to attend regular school lessons for a long time due to the serious illness . The ECDL program, on the other hand, can be adapted to the patient's individual pace (physical and mental condition)
A personal trainer accompanies and supports the learners and prepares them optimally for the examination of the individual modules.
The ECDL certificate is internationally recognized. The young people with cancer are highly motivated and appreciate the offer very much, as it is not only an educational change from everyday hospital life but also an added value for their future (e.g. for their career prospects). For the duration of the course, Children's Cancer Aid Switzerland provides the participating young patients with a laptop on loan.
