Holzergie Schweiz introduces itself

On December 14, 1979, after the shock of the oil crises, associations from the forestry and timber industry and energy technology, together with representatives from science, the cantonal forestry services and the Federal Office of Forestry (now FOEN), founded the Swiss Association for Wood Energy VHe. The realization had matured that the oil-dependent energy supply posed a risk to the development of the national economy and needed to be diversified by using domestic, renewable energies.

We promote the sensible, environmentally friendly, modern and efficient energy use of wood, Switzerland's second most important renewable and indigenous energy source. With a wide range of attractive and modern services, we are an important and competent partner in the field of wood energy for specialists, builders, politicians, companies and interested private individuals.

Our head office is in Zurich  with branches in French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. We have around 600 members (municipalities, companies in the forestry and timber industry, planners, engineers, interested private individuals). Holzenergie Schweiz is an association with broad support in the industry; the board includes well-known representatives from all areas of the wood energy sector (associations/representatives of the forestry and wood industry, wood combustion manufacturers, science).

Our goals

• By 2035, the ecologically and economically viable energy wood potential should be fully exhausted. Wood will only be used for energy when no higher-value uses are available.
• The federal government, cantons, supporting associations and end customers see Holzenergie Schweiz as a competent partner and seek close cooperation.
• Replacement of inefficient old systems with modern appliances as quickly as possible
.
