ECAP is a non-commercial and non-profit adult education institute in Switzerland. Headquartered in Zurich, there are nine regional branches throughout Switzerland. With its courses, the intercultural organisation enables the education of migrants and employees in general, including those with little formal education. With more than 50,000 participants per year, ECAP is the second largest adult education institute in Switzerland – and the number one school for German and integration courses. Our main activities are: • Courses for the achievement of professional qualification (Art. 33 of the BBG) for construction (bricklayers, plasterer, painter), for sales (detail trade specialist EFZ and retail trade assistant EBA), as well as for metalworkers and blind fitters • Refresher courses for architects, engineers, designers etc. with AutoCAD • Refresher courses in the hotel and catering industry («The ABCs of the hotel industry and catering») • Business management, in cooperation with the Vocational and Trade School (SPAI) in Trevano • Computer science courses (introduction and consolidation in Word, Excel, Access, Internet, PowerPoint) with the possibility of obtaining the «European Computer Driving Licence» (ECDL) • Professional language courses (German and English in sales or commercial areas) with the possibility of obtaining the respective telc certificates • Literacy courses in cooperation with the Association Leggere & Scrivere della Svizzera italiana • Founding of company • Atelier TRI, application techniques for unemployed persons • Italian language courses in various municipalities, with the possibility of obtaining CELI certificates • «Preparatory Examination Courses» for electrical and masonry apprentices, in cooperation with Unia. The Märtplatz Foundation is a training institution for young people facing psychological and social challenges. Around 45 individuals are trained in eleven workshops and studios, usually aged between 16 and 25. Vocational training takes place in a protected environment, with subsequent integration into the primary job market. Most trainees are referred by the disability insurance authority, in some cases by the juvenile court or a social services agency. The focus of the training is on the individual – their talents, interests, and abilities: strengths are nurtured, and manual, technical, and professional skills are learned and deepened. The training process takes into account specific difficulties and deficits. In this way, we offer all trainees a personalized education – in manual, creative, culinary, and technical professions. The goal is successful training and sustainable integration into the workforce. The following qualifications are offered: Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (EFZ), Federal Vocational Certificate (EBA), and Practical Training according to INSOS (PrA). The Märtplatz Foundation was established in 1985 and is based in Freienstein, Zurich. The workshops and studios are located on the grounds of a former cotton spinning mill. Two shops are located in Embrach, and one in Rorbas.

Urs J. Knobel was born in Zug, Switzerland. He graduated from the Lucerne University of Arts where he had studied graphic arts. Study stay in London. Lecture Bath School of Art and Design United Kingdom. Assembly book, collage, sketchbook. He then worked as a Graphic Designer at Advico Young & Rubicam, and went on to become Art Director at Doyle Dane Bernbach in Zurich. Today he works as an Illustrator, Art Director, Graphic Designer and Painter. He designed the poster for the White Turf St. Moritz racing event and the badges for the carnival of Baar. The context in which we operate influences our approach to the project in a decisive way. To produce appropriate design proposals, we believe it essential to take into account the urban fabric and the morphological properties of the landscape. By drawing on architectural models of the past, understood as typological references for formal and composition purposes, we identify a theme connecting the context to our design proposal.
