What are orthoses?
Orthosis (Greek for "support apparatus"): Orthopedic technical aid that fits externally to the torso or a limb. It substitutes missing static or dynamic bodily functions by providing relief, guidance, or fixation, corrects misalignments, or can support a healing process.
Functions of leg orthoses:
- Length compensation
- Stabilization (restriction of unphysiological or undesirable movement)
- Guidance of the passive musculoskeletal system
- Securing the active musculoskeletal system
- Fixation Prevention of movement
- Correction (improvement of malpositions)
- Redression: Return from malposition
- Quengeln: Passive mobilization with little force over a long period of time
- Retention: Holding in corrected position
- Relief / Extension
What are prostheses?
A prosthesis is a limb replacement. Indicated after the loss of a limb, e.g., due to illness, accident, or birth defect.
Toe replacement
Indication
Toe replacement after amputation of the toe(s), e.g., after an accident, diabetes mellitus, tumors, AVK, and others.
Intended use
Can be combined with an insole or incorporated into one. Can also be used individually with a silicone toe replacement as a placeholder.
Mainly to prevent malformations of the toes. Inward turning of the toes, and thus a new problem, can be avoided.
Pyrogoff prosthesis
Indication
Amputation according to Pirogoff, heel bone (calcaneus) and shin bone (tibia) are fixed together. Forefoot and midfoot are amputated.
Status after accident, AVK, diabetes mellitus, and others.
Intended use
Very good load-bearing zones of the foot due to preservation of the heel bone and sole skin. Due to the absence of the forefoot lever, the prosthesis must be constructed below the knee to ensure good power transmission.
Lower leg prosthesis with liner
Indication
Amputation of the lower leg after an accident, diabetes mellitus, tumors, CAV, AVK, and other conditions
Intended use
The fundamental goal of any prosthetic treatment is mobility and the associated verticalization. Patients should be able to return to their everyday lives.
The restoration can optionally be fitted with a silicone liner or gel liner.
Knee disarticulation prosthesis
Indication
Amputation through the knee joint. The thigh bone and kneecap remain intact. There will be little or no surgical alteration to the femur.
Intended use
Knee disarticulation is one of the best amputation heights for treatment, as this height ensures that the stump end is not subjected to stress. The femur is not operated on, or only minimally.
Soft inner socket, molded hard outer socket, with stump end loading and guidance above the condyles.
Various knee joints are available from different manufacturers for knee flexion.
Prosthetic feet are available from various manufacturers (dynamic joint feet or jointless feet). The wide range of products allows us to provide excellent individual care. For the cosmetic appearance of the artificial leg, we use foam sleeves that can be easily molded to the shape of the other leg. The structure is modular.
Thigh prosthesis
Indication
Reasons for amputation
- Amputation of the thigh after an accident
- Amputation after illness
- Diabetes, tumor, AVK, and others
- Post-amputation
Intended use
Due to the loss of a limb, it is extremely important to begin rehabilitation and verticalization as early as possible.
We have various products available for this purpose.
Thigh prosthesis
Indication
Due to dysmelia (congenital absence of limbs)
Intended use
For therapeutic purposes, prosthetic treatment should be started as soon as the patient begins to walk in cases of congenital malformations (dysmelia).
The prosthesis is constructed without a knee joint during the first years of life.
Ornamental arm
Indication
After forearm amputation due to trauma
Congenital dysmelia
Intended use
As a decorative prosthesis with no function; the hand is passive.
Silicone gloves, very good cosmetic compensation

Insoles
Adjustment period
Since insoles correct the foot, an adjustment period of approximately two weeks is to be expected until the muscles and ligaments of the foot have adapted to the new situation. This is also when we schedule our first check-up.
Check-ups
The first check-up should always take place after two weeks. Further check-ups for young people should take place after approximately four to six months. For adults, this can be done after six months or as needed. However, regular check-ups are recommended in order to achieve better and faster results.
Cleaning
We recommend washing thermoplastic insoles regularly with normal soapy water. Leather-coated insoles do not require any special care.
