The Horgen Civil Status and Funeral Office, based in Horgen, is responsible for the municipalities of Horgen and Oberrieden. Civil status cases in these two municipalities are certified by the Horgen civil status office.

This includes births, deaths, child recognitions, name declarations or gender changes. In addition, preparatory procedures for marriage for all are carried out and declarations for the conversion of a registered partnership into a marriage are accepted. In addition, register extracts and various certificates are issued.

The duties of the Funeral Office include receiving notifications of deaths of Horgen residents as well as arranging funerals, transferring the deceased, arranging cremations, burials and funerals. Relatives of residents of other municipalities must contact the burial office of the municipality of residence.

In the canton of Zurich, the district courts are responsible for divorces and marriage protection proceedings and not the civil status offices.
