April 24, 2025 | dreyerguyThe EXIT movement for the right to die with dignity was born in England in 1935. It quickly spread to other countries and continents, and today counts some fifty associations with nearly a million members and supporters.
Our association EXIT ADMD Suisse romande, often referred to as "EXIT" or "EXIT Suisse romande", was founded in Geneva by some twenty people in 1982.
Our primary aim is to fight against therapeutic relentlessness, to ensure the recognition of patients' rights by demanding through their directives anticipées respect for their wishes and choices in the face of their death.
Numerous parents or relatives have been denied the right to die in the final stages of a difficult illness or at the end of a long old age, even though they had lucidly decided to do so. They have sometimes been kept in undignified conditions, which they would previously have categorically refused.
We neither want to suffer such a fate, nor see it inflicted on our loved ones, hence our willingness to offer assistance in dying when life circumstances may justify it.
In compliance with the laws in force and supported by a major part of the Swiss population, the EXIT ADMD Suisse romande association therefore defends:
The right for everyone to choose how to live the final stages of their life.
The right of the patient to be in control of the final stages of their illness.
The right to a dignified and humane death.
