Description
Winegrowers' cooperative Löhningen
<
The winegrowing cooperative was founded in 1951 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001. We press the grapes from 29 winegrowers who cultivate the following grape varieties on their land
- 825 acres of Riesling x Silvaner
- 350 aren Pinot Noir
- 37 aren Garanoir
- 23 ares Dornfelder
- 26 ares Chardonnay
- 36 ares Cabernet Dorsa
- 21 ares Seyval Blanc
- 15 aren Cabernet Jura
The nine grape varieties are grown on 13.5 hectares. They produce everything from light, sparkling aperitif wines to full-bodied specialties matured in their own barrels, exclusive wines for everyday enjoyment and special occasions.
The municipalities of Löhningen and Beringen at the southern foot of the Randen are among the smaller wine-growing communities in the canton. The limestone and gravel-rich soils of the Randen produce a very special Muscat-accented, fruity and elegant Riesling-Silvaner wine. For this reason, around 70% of the vineyard area in Löhningen is planted with this variety. 20% is Pinot Noir and 10% of the area is planted with various specialties. The proportion of Riesling-Silvaner in all other Schaffhausen wine-growing communities, on the other hand, is only around 15% of the planted vineyard area.
