Domaine des Abeilles d'Or – Contacts & Location
Description
The Domaine des Abeilles d'Or vineyards are part of the Choully and Peissy appellations d'origine contrôlée, which are themselves part of the appellation contrôlée Genève. The vineyard covers 25ha. Choully is at the heart of Switzerland's largest wine-growing commune, Satigny.
The Choully hillside extends in more or less steep slopes above the village of Satigny.
The Domaine des Abeilles d'Or is cultivated, in the purest tradition, in the low and narrow guyot system at a rate of around 10,000 vines per ha. The vines are grassed to combat erosion and slow down vine vigor. The estate is run using techniques designed to preserve the environment, and is one of the first estates in Switzerland to practice integrated production (IP).
At the center of Europe, Domaine des Abeilles d'Or cultivates some twenty grape varieties, where you can taste :
- Chasselas, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon, Kerner, Scheurebe, Semillion for whites
- Gamay, Pinot Noir, Gamaret, Garanoir, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ancellota for reds
Gamay and Pinot Noir, are also matured into Gamay and Œil-de-Perdrix rosés.
Some grape varieties are vinified in blends to produce:
- La Douceur d'Automne
- Le M2
- And our renowned Douce Noire
Baron Auriol blanc de blancs and Somnambulles (frizzanté) are both sparkling wines.
For lovers of digestifs, we distill Lie and Marc, which we let age a minimum of 7 years in oak barrels.
Douce Noire, M2 are aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels before giving off the fullness of their aromas.
The vinification of Domaine des Abeilles d'Or vintages is carried out with care by Laurent Desbaillets, a graduate of the Changins School.
